Laurel House
Norristown, PA
Our 2007 charitable event partner
Laurel House is an extraordinary Montgomery County organization offering a wide array of services to victims of domestic violence and their children. These include a 24-hour hotline and shelter and a transitional housing program. Our 2006/2007 partnership with Laurel House included three main gifts: a party, a class and a fundraiser.
The party took place in March, when we loaned out our Bryn Mawr studio for Laurel House’s annual Pre-Gala Press Party. It was an unforgettable evening thoroughly enjoyed by the more than 125 people in attendance.
A second, and more long-term, gift was a once-monthly photography and crafts class for children living in the Laurel House transitional housing program. The mission for the class was to provide an enjoyable experience that helped to build self confidence by using photography and creativity. Children took and printed their own photographs, using them to make personalized mementos, such as T-shirts, right in class.
Finally, we also conducted a fund-raising drive for Laurel House during April and May, 2007. Entitled “Expressing Gratitude,” the program offered participants a session with Dan and an eight–by-eight portrait in exchange for their donations to Laurel House. A total of 41 families participated in the program, which generated $9,000 in Laurel House donations. www.laurel-house.org
